The Wild Knows the Way: Why Nurses & Caregivers Need Time Off the Grid
Share
Dear nurse, caregiver, or soul who holds space for others —
You deserve rest.
Not just sleep, not just “a day off” where your phone still buzzes and your mind still races.
You deserve true disconnection — the kind that only the wild can offer.
This week, I’m heading out on a camping trip. No monitors, no emails, no shift alarms. Just trees, lake water, birdsong, and firelight. A return to something ancient and essential.
And I wanted to share this with you — not as a travel diary, but as a reminder:
🧭 Nature is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.
For nurses, caregivers, and anyone who gives deeply of themselves, there comes a time when the screens, the schedules, and the sirens are too much. When your nervous system begs for stillness. When you need to stop tending to others and finally tend to yourself.
That’s where the forest comes in.
Or the ocean.
Or the mountain.
Or the little patch of green behind your home.
The wild doesn’t ask anything of you. It doesn’t need charting, prepping, fixing, or solving. It welcomes you as you are — tired, messy, soft, strong — and offers only this:
“Be here. Be still. Be whole again.”
📵 Unplugging isn’t selfish. It’s sacred.
I won’t be checking emails or scrolling this week. I’ll be letting my mind wander, my hands get dirty, and my body sleep without alarms. I’ll be waking up with the sun and letting the fireflies tell me when it’s time for bed.
And in doing that, I’ll be healing.
Because when we disconnect from the digital world, we reconnect to the real one — the one where we breathe deeper, laugh louder, and remember what matters.
💚 If you’ve been running on empty, this is your invitation.
Plan the day off. Book the cabin. Pitch the tent. Or simply sit outside, barefoot, with your tea.
Let the wild reset your rhythm. Let silence recalibrate your soul.
You deserve to come home to yourself.
With dirt under your nails, wind in your hair, and a full heart.
See you when I’m back. I’ll bring stories from the trees. 🌿
May the forest hold you,
the silence mend you,
and the wind remind you who you are.
See you on the other side of stillness.
With care
Leonor
